A planning inquiry will take place in June

A group of Northamptonshire villagers fighting against a 182-acre solar farm development. Copse Lodge Action Group oppose the construction of the site that covers the countryside and farmland between Greatworth, Halse and Farthinghoe.

Plans were finally submitted for a 256 acre site in 2021, but the application was subsequently withdrawn as a result of feedback received from the council’s landscape consultant, according to a JBM Solar Projects 20 Ltd spokesperson. Mick Morris, a spokesperson for the group, said: "We feel that we need to employ specialist people who have considerable professional experience in planning, especially appeals, to drive our points across in a more structured way to meet the needs of the officer appointed Planning Inspectorate.

The proposed HS2 line also runs through the north of the village, while a heavy goods vehicle route to the site has also been mapped out - with 12 lorry movements a day planned. "We feel that in refusing the scheme, the Council overstated the potential level of harm. The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs has acknowledged that climate change is the biggest threat to food security, which is why proposals like ours are so important.
