Police in Northern Ireland are seeking information after the body of a missing Belfast man was found in Spain. John George went missing in December while on holiday in Alicante.

Police in Northern Ireland have urgently repeated an appeal for information following the grim discovery of a missing Belfast man's body in Spain. John George, who was also known as John Hardy and hailed from West Belfast, travelled to Alicante in early December. The last time his family heard from him was December 14, when he had plans to drive to Benidorm. Alarm bells rang after he failed to catch his return flight to Belfast on December 18, prompting his loved ones to report him missing.

His friends and relatives flew out to Costa Blanca to join the search for the 37-year-old, and tragically, on Tuesday January 7, a body was found. The PSNI released a statement confirming that they were informed that the body recovered in Spain is likely to be that of John George. PSNI Detective Inspector Jennifer Rea said: 'My thoughts are, first and foremost, with Mr George's family at this distressing time. Our dedicated Family Liaison Officers continue to provide support to the family, and we continue to work closely with international law enforcement agencies.' DI Rea appealed to anyone who might have details helpful to the Spanish Investigation Team to come forward, saying: 'I am keen to reiterate our appeal for anyone with information that could assist the Spanish Investigation Team with their enquiries to please contact us on 101.' The PSNI has made it possible for people to share any relevant photos or videos, including CCTV or dash cam footage, directly through the Major Incident Public Portal. Anything received will be forwarded on to the Spanish Police. Information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers, with total anonymity, on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.or
