The Donegal Weather Channel website shared some “big Aurora news” as word of the solar flare emerged. “A full halo CME wasn’t observed, which means a direct hit the Earth will be likely,” it said. “This is likely to arrive later Thursday with G2 storm conditions likely and could spark stronger G3 or G4 storm conditions with a massive aurora.” Geomagnetic storm conditions could even last into the weekend, the site added.A clear night is crucial to catch the northern lights in all their glory. As it stands, Met Eireann is predicting a cloud-free evening, however cloud will build in the west towards morning.
