The trusts declared a 'critical incident' on Thursday

, Newark and Mansfield Community Hospitals, both declared a 'critical incident' on Thursday, December 29.

The two NHS Trusts have confirmed this is still in place as of Friday, December 30. A critical incident is declared when the level of disruption results in a local NHS organisation temporarily or permanently losing its ability to deliver critical services. Raising the alert enables trusts to prioritise patients with the highest level of need. Yesterday officials at Nottingham NUH said they were facing a large number of people arriving at the Emergency Department who need to be admitted to both hospitals suffering with respiratory conditions, including flu. This demand is causing "very long waits" for patients to be seen and long waits to be admitted to a ward, causing overcrowding in ED.

The situation was similarly described by SFH . A statement said the trust was caring for 76 patients with flu and a further 68 patients with Covid, and was struggling to deal with an influx of very ill people arriving at local Emergency Departments.
