Airbnb is capitalizing on the shift to remote work, something the company seems to think will be sticking around for good

Today the company announced a slew of new features that indicate it believes the trend is sticking around, perhaps for good.
Airbnb’s trend lines paint a compelling picture of a flexible mindset. Nearly half of nights booked on Airbnb this year were for at least one week, compared to 38% two years ago. And the long-stay trend does not appear to be running out of gas; from July to September of this year, an astonishing 20% of stays booked on Airbnb were for one month or longer.
Also telling: Airbnb’s wifi search feature has been used more than 288 million times this year, says Chesky. “More and more people are working from Airbnbs so they need really good wifi. We know this matters.” As the lines continued to blur between travel, living and working, Airbnb added a new feature last May called “I’m Flexible” aimed at those who are not locked into specific dates or destinations and who want to stay open to suggestion. “It’s a whole new way to search when you’re flexible about where or when you’re traveling,” says Chesky.
