The domicile levy applies to anyone who has a global income of over €1 million or Irish property worth over €5 million, but who pays less than €200,000 in tax
The number of wealthy individuals paying the domicile levy – a charge designed to target super-rich tax exiles – has fallen to just 11, raising a meagre €2.2 million for the Exchequer.
However, figures just published by the Department of Finance show that only 11 people filed domicile levy returns for 2022 – the second-lowest figure recorded since the tax was introduced. He also revealed that concessions were made during the Covid-19 pandemic for non-tax-residents who become liable to pay tax in Ireland if they remain in the country for more than 183 days during a given year.
