New CSO figures show a total of 2,353 new cars were licensed last month, up 9% from last year's figures of 2,167. But for the first 11 months of the year, new car sales slowed by 1%.
The CSO said a total of 2,353 new cars were licensed last month, up from last year's figures of 2,167.The CSO noted that in the first 11 months of 2022, 15% of all new cars licensed for the first time were electric compared with 8% the same time last year.
The number of new electric cars licensed has increased by 82% from 8,414 in the first 11 months of 2021 to 15,291 this year. Meanwhile, 27% of new private cars licensed were diesel in November, down from 34% during the same month in 2021. Today's CSO figures also show that 43,681 used private cars were licensed in the first 11 months of 2022 compared with 64,657 last year - a fall of 32%.
The CSO said that Volkswagen was the most popular make of new private car licensed in November, followed by Toyota, Hyundai, Renault and Dacia.
