Nutritionist Dominique Ludwig shares her top tips on how to avoid piling on the pounds over Christmas while still enjoying the festive period
The holiday period is all about fun, festivities, and feasting with loved ones – yet for many, the indulgence can be a challenge to manage. We all want to have a good time without paying the price come January, when clothes feel tighter and energy levels plummet.
The trick lies in making wise choices that keep you feeling full of vitality all through the holidays. Smart eating habits can maintain steady blood sugar levels, preventing the highs and lows that drive constant hunger and overeating, reports the Mirror. She continues: "While it is fine to eat some, research has linked too many with increased weight gain and increased appetite. These foods are designed to be very addictive – so one bite is never enough. Consuming crisps, bread, pastries, mince pies, glazed biscuits, cakes, and chocolates results in rapid sugar conversion in the body."
She concludes: "Consult any nutritionist, and they'll begin by recommending veg. They provide fibre, which not only fills us up but also supplies plenty of antioxidants to support our immune system." She also warned people to be cautious of refined carbs commonly found in buffets, like pastry, bread, crisps, and snacks. "These low fibre, high starch and sugary foods can disrupt appetite regulation, which can lead to overeating."
