Oak Brook Park District installs LED lighting in the Family Recreation Center

The Oak Brook Park District has upgraded outdated fluorescent lighting to new, energy-efficient LED lighting at its Family Recreation Center, according to a news release.

Not only will this benefit the Park District financially, but more importantly benefit the environment, the release said.According to the ComEd Energy Efficiency Program Assessment Report provided to the Park District, the Park District was using approximately 1,797,171 kWh a year. By installing these LED lights, the Park District is projected to use as little as 1,480,132 kWh a year. With this change in energy use, the Park District may save up to $25,430.56 annually., according to the release.

“With environmental stewardship being one of the Park District’s core values, we are proud that we had the opportunity to foster the responsible use and protection of the natural environment through a more sustainable practice,” Bob Johnson, Director of Parks and Planning, said in the release.

Park District officials look forward to exploring other environmentally friendly opportunities to improve operations and save on costs while helping protect the environment, the release said.
