An Oakland City Council candidate is under fire for a tweet she made in support of the rapper Ye.
“Why is Oakland D4 candidate Nenna Joiner ‘rooting for’ Ye following his horrifying recent statements?” one user on Twitter wrote. “It’s absolutely disturbing that these views are being expressed by a prominent candidate in nominally progressive East Bay.”on Tuesday addressing the pushback. In that tweet, she referred to her initial post as “inarticulate” and said it didn’t “represent my views.
“The tweet was NOT condoning Anti-Semitism but showing compassion for those [with] mental health issues,” she wrote. “There is no room for Anti-Semitism.” Joiner, a small business owner, is running against public interest attorney Janani Ramachandran for the vacant seat.
