A member of the Oakland City Council has revealed some concerns about the prospect that a Home Depot store could be developed on a prime site in the East Bay city.

The store would rise on what is currently a vacant lot at the corner of Broadway and Pleasant Valley Avenue, according to a very preliminary concept on file with Oakland city planners. “A Home Depot is not the best concept at this location,” Councilmember Kalb said. “A lengthy review process is needed if this is something that is being seriously considered here.”
“I would like to see a retail and housing combination on the site,” Kalb said. “A well-designed retail and housing development makes sense here.”
