The Government has asked the medicines watchdog to consider the potential benefits of prescribing weight-loss jabs to children as young as 12 years old on the NHS

Ozempic is one brand of semaglutide, the appetite suppressant drug that is currently available for some obese adults on the NHS .

The Department of Health and Social Care has asked the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence to evaluate whetherSemaglutide, sold under the brand names Ozempic, Wegovy and Rybelsus, is an appetite-suppressing drug that has been used to treat diabetes for several years – but is now being offered as a weight-loss treatment after studies showed it was highly effective in helping people shed pounds.

In the US, Wegovy has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for teens aged 12 and up, while thesays the drug will only be offered on the NHS to adults with a body mass index of at least 30 and weight-related co-morbidities.
