The Red Cross is in contact with Hamas and Israel to try to negotiate the release of hostages taken into Gaza. At least 150 Israelis and foreigners – including soldiers, civilians, children and women – have been held hostage in the Gaza Strip since Hamas’s surprise Saturday attack on Israel.
Gardaí upgraded their investigation into the 2017 disappearance of Tina Satchwell from a missing-person inquiry to a murder probe after they received “significant new intelligence”. A man questioned by gardaí for two days on suspicion of Ms Satchwell’s murder was released without charge yesterday evening. The man, who is aged in his 50s and was known to her, was released after being questioned at Cobh garda station on Tuesday and yesterday.
Irish-Israeli woman Kim Damti, aged 22, has been confirmed dead after an attack by Hamas at a music festival in southern Israel. In a post on social media, her sister Laura said: “With great sorrow and gloomy grief, I announce the killing of our angel, our flower, Kim, my blood, who was murdered by the cursed terrorists.” Her funeral will take place on Thursday at 5pm at the cemetery in Gedera, south of Tel Aviv.
A passenger train derailed in eastern India, killing four people and injuring dozens.
