Tim Walton is officially announced as Ohio State's new cornerbacks coach.
“We’re very excited to welcome Tim and his family back to Ohio State,” Ryan Day said in a statement. “As a former Buckeye captain, he comes here with a deep appreciation for how special this place is. And, his experience at both the collegiate and NFL levels make him someone who is uniquely qualified to develop the back end of our defense.”
Walton comes to Ohio State from the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he spent the past three years coaching cornerbacks. He was previously the cornerbacks coach of the New York Giants , the defensive coordinator of the St. Louis Rams and a defensive backs coach for the Detroit Lions . Additionally, Walton has more than a decade of experience coaching at the collegiate level, most recently as the defensive coordinator at Memphis in 2008. He was previously spent four years at Miami as a defensive backs coach and defensive coordinator and also had coaching stints at LSU, Syracuse and Bowling Green., who was previously the cornerbacks coach at Cincinnati and will now be Ohio State’s safeties coach.
Ohio State is now set to have four new assistant coaches for the 2022 season after also hiring Justin Frye as its associate head coach for offense and offensive line coach. Previous offensive line coach Greg Studrawa, secondary coach Matt Barnes, defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs and linebackers coach Al Washington will not be returning for the 2022 season.
A native of Columbus, Georgia, Walton recorded 10 interceptions during his own career as an Ohio State cornerback.
