Shohei Ohtani’s close friend Ippei Mizuhara was let go Wednesday following reports about his alleged ties to an illegal bookmaker.

Sports gambling is illegal in California, even as 38 states and the District of Columbia allow some form of it. Will Ireton, the Dodgers’ manager of performance operations, went to the mound in the first inning to translate for pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
