Photos have emerged from an NHS workers’ strike over a pay dispute in Enniskillen 40 years ago - in the same week as healthcare workers strike again as the cost of living goes through the roof.
“I was secretary of the Fermanagh Council of Trade Unions at that time and we were involved with the health service unions in organising that march," Jim told MyFermanagh. “It was a real wet day, I can remember it well. The crowd stayed together well to parade despite the weather on the day. Fast forward to 2022, and on Tuesday nurses and other healthcare staff were taking part in a now weekly demonstration at the South West Acute Hospital, Altnagelvin and Omagh Hospital calling for a pay rise for healthcare staff.
