The group returned to its roots in recording its latest album.

The Randy Rogers Band will perform Oct. 15 at the Troubadour Festival in Celina. The band members are Brady Black , Todd Stewart, Jon “Chops” Richardson, Randy Rogers, Geoffrey Hill and Les Lawless. It’s almost as if Randy Rogers doesn’t realize he’s saying the quiet part out loud when he openly discusses just how he and his eponymous band took very specific steps to “recapture some old magic” while recording their new album,.

“Everything was exactly how we wanted it to be,” he says over the phone. “We had a very deliberate approach, and we picked Radney in order to rekindle the spark we all felt when we were creating this band 20 years ago. I think we accomplished that goal. This wasn’t a rushed experience for us or some type of under-the-gun experience. It really was like strolling down memory lane in a lot of ways.”

Some of the themes and tempos recall the band’s early days, of course, but Black’s fiddle has never sounded better, which is saying a lot. And Rogers’ signature vocal rasp has developed more gritty character with time.
