Stephen Cluxton, Davy Byrne, John O'Leary and Paddy Cullen all followed in the footsteps of Pascal Flynn as Dublin have had just five regular senior goalkeepers across 65 years.

One of the ‘keepers of the Dublin flame' has passed away. Pascal Flynn - who was between the posts for Dublin’s 1963 All-Ireland final victory - died earlier this week, with his funeral taking place yesterday in Wicklow.

Flynn - a bookbinder by trade - joined the Dublin panel and was sub goalkeeper in 1957 and 1958. He claimed the number one jersey in 1959 and remained in situ until 1966, before Paddy Cullen took over in 1967. Cullen went on to win three All-Ireland titles with the famous capital side of the 1970s. O’Leary made his Championship debut in 1980 and was the number one until 1997, playing an incredible 70 consecutive championship matches and conceding just 51 goals.

Davy Byrne took over then and was number one for three championship campaigns: 1998, 1999 and 2000. He retired in early 2002 at 30 years of age.
