Average of just one politician using Dail gym each day despite annual taxpayer upkeep cost of €50,000
Politicians are shunning the Dail gym, with figures revealing an average of just one a day works out in the taxpayer-funded facility.
Around 8% of the total 4,841 sessions in 2018 were by Oireachtas members, while more motivated, non-elected Leinster House staff worked up a sweat on 4,447 occasions – making up 92% of the total visits. The gym is open four times every weekday – from 8.30am to 9.30am, 12.30pm to 3pm, 5.30pm to 7.30pm and 7.30pm to 9.30pm.
