2023 was a superb 12 months for OnePlus, which celebrated its tenth birthday with the release of its first foldable smartphone, OnePlus Open which was universally acclaimed as both the best foldable and one of the best smartphones of 2023.
Its last Nord release in Ireland was the CE3 Lite in 2023 and they have now followed that up with the launch of Nord CE4 Lite 5G which goes on sale July 1 in Ireland. If you pre-order between June 24 and July 1 you get €50 off and can receive a free pair of OnePlus Nord Buds 2 or a protective case or an adapter.
The handset comes with a large, colourful and vibrant 6.67in full-HD 120 Hz AMOLED display that has a peak brightness of 2100 nits, making it bright enough to use even in direct sunlight which I got a chance to test in today’s rare burst of actual sunshine in Ireland. The firm said it can keep 26 apps open in the background without affecting the performance so naturally I tested this claim, and it stands up. The 8GB of fast LPDDR4X RAM helps in this regard.One neat feature is Smart Cutout, that enables you to quickly edit photos, select and customise a cutout that you can then share with a simple tap. The firm said this even works in a group photo scenario so that each subject can be accurately detected and extracted.
The front-facing 16MP camera can also capture decent images in good lighting. There is no OIS but you do get electronic image stabilization that does help.Other features Nord CE4 Lite 5G comes with 256GB of storage as standard which is decent for the €329 price tag. You can expand the storage by up to 2TB with a micro-SD card.
