Drawings believed to be the only surviving depictions of George Orwell completed in his lifetime have been brought to light after they were discovered in the belongings of a Suffolk antiques dealer 🔴 Exclusive from cahalmilmo
author as a young man in the earliest stages of his writing career, are likely to have been completed by a mystery artist while Orwell was staying at his parents’ home in the seaside town of Southwold in the late 20s or early 30s.appearance come from a handful of photographs taken during his lifetime. The sole painting of him, completed by the wife of his publisher in 1940, has since disappeared.
Orwell is one of the most renowned British writers but clues as to his appearance are limited to photographs taken during his lifetime. He died aged in 1950 from tuberculosis, aged 46. The relative, who asked not to be named, said: “We had no idea the drawings were there. We opened a drawer and there was this very small sketchbook with a note saying Orwell’s name. He is very recognisable in the drawings but we simply don’t know where they came from. It would be nice to be able to find out a bit more about them.”
