Before the Yankees and Red Sox met, New York star Aaron Judge let his deadline for a long-term contract pass.

Both were off Nathan Eovaldi, who beat Cole in last year's AL wild-card game.Seats were filled with a sellout crowd of 46,097, COVID-19 protocols were dropped and opening-day festivities returned after two seasons altered by the pandemic.
