Opinion: Why superintendent Cheryl James-Ward isn't fit to serve in the San Dieguito schools [Opinion]
Meanwhile, Allman and trustee Muir withstand these attacks while they put the needs of families first and serve as responsible stewards of taxpayer funds. Allman and Muir are not the cause of chaos in the San Dieguito Union High School District; the leaders of San Dieguito Faculty Association, with help from the California Teachers Association, are and they are relentless.
We must move on now with a leader who collaborates with an independent board. Dr. James-Ward was in over her head, and she is not the professional we need to run an award-winning district of 13,000 students and 1,000 staff. In the more than seven weeks since Dr. James-Ward was put on leave, the district has been running smoothly under the leadership of interim Superintendent Tina Douglas. We successfully celebrated the graduations and promotions of students at 10 schools and are preparing for a new school year.
Dr. James-Ward needs to resign, or the board must terminate her contract. The union and its allies must stop their disruptive tactics. We are tired of the drama and chaos, but we cannot return to a union-controlled board. We need a strong superintendent who values independent trustees and can work with the community to restore the academic rigor and exceptional student services and programs we expect.
