The embattled agency commissioned an external audit report on the €336,000 bike shed project, seeking advice on how to achieve value for money in future

The Office of Public Works has paid more than €25,000 to consultants tasked with conducting an external audit of the €336,000 Leinster House bike shelter and advising the agency on how to achieve better value for money in future.

Deloitte was engaged by the OPW to carry out the audit and identify instances where appropriate processes and procedures were not followed in relation to the bike shelter development. “The report has been received from Deloitte, who were engaged to carry out the audit,” said a spokesperson. “OPW management are considering the report, and it will also be considered by the OPW Audit and Risk Committee.”Appearing before the Oireachtas Public Accounts Committee after the cost of the Leinster House project emerged, Mr Conlon said he was “fully familiar with the real anger” among the public regarding the bike shelter.
