After a strong qualifying, with Lando Norris in third and Oscar Piastri in tenth, then promoted to ninth with a penalty for the Alpine of Pierre Gasly.Hopes were high at McLaren. Despite both team and drivers confirming that conditions on the day had suited the car perfectly, and not set expectations unreasonably high.
“Pretty poor first lap for myself as well, which didn’t help things, but I don’t think we really had the pace to stay in the points anyways.” Oscar also made it clear that the colder conditions on Saturday had massively favoured the car over one lap. Implying it may have been a one-off situation.
