Outrage as Northern Ireland Secretary of State Karen Bradley says security force killings during the Troubles were 'not crimes'
A British politician has sparked outrage by saying security force killings during the Troubles were "not crimes".
Ms Bradley said: “Over 90 per cent of the killings during the Troubles were at the hands of terrorists, every single one of those was a crime.“They were people acting under orders and under instruction and fulfilling their duty in a dignified and appropriate way.” She said that she meant that the “overwhelming majority of those who served carried out their duties with courage, professionalism and integrity and within the law”.
Ms Bradley’s comments came ahead of imminent developments in the Bloody Sunday investigation, the Ballymurphy inquest and details emerging from court today that the Operation Kenova probe into Stakeknife’s alleged activities has “uncovered evidence of criminal wrongdoing by both IRA and security force members”.
