The former Ireland star has admitted his surprise at his home country's run at the tournament.
Former Ireland international Jean Kleyn has admitted that being on the cusp of Rugby World Cup glory with South Africa was "outside the realm of thinking” just months ago.
The Springboks are the reigning champions having defeated England in 2019. They face three-time winners New Zealand in the final on Saturday."I think I’ve caught myself thinking about it probably too often,” Kleyn said of his curious Test career. “I’ll probably wake up when it’s all said and done and think, ‘was that a dream or did it actually happen?’. It was outside the realm of thinking.Kleyn played five times for Ireland with his last appearance coming in a pool-stage win over Samoa four years ago. He was worried that his switching back to The Springboks may cause some anger but he says he has received many messages of support from Munster fans.
Kleyn may have to settle for a watching brief on saturday night having started just one match at the tournament so far, his side's 76-0 demolition of Romania. He did though feature off the bench against his former international side Ireland.“Obviously it was a pity for us the result didn’t go our way but here we are in the end still,” said Kleyn.
