Dozens of Garda vehicles involved in the operation could be seen on Tuesday morning
An Garda Síochána is currently conducting a major search operation in Dublin targeting organised crime gangs in the Coolock and Raheny areas.
Gardaí conducted organised searches under warrant of 39 properties starting on Tuesday morning, 14 January, as part of investigations into the activity of a number of organised criminal gangs operating nationwide. It is understood the major Garda operation was targeting feuding traveller gangs. The gangs are suspected of being involved in organised crimes, including burglaries taking place nationwide, drug trafficking, counterfeiting, theft and other property crimes. Sources say officers feared weapons were being stored and the operation was to try and secure them before any violence broke out. So far, around €100,000 of suspected drugs have been seized.
Over 150 Garda members from the DMR North, Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Garda National Economic Crime Bureau, Operational Support including the Garda Dog Unit, Armed Support Unit are involved in the operation, with additional support provided by the Garda National Public Order Unit.Join the Irish Mirror’s breaking news service on WhatsApp. Click this link to receive breaking news and the latest headlines direct to your phone.
