A jail sentence was not sought for Demsey Long because the cause of the infant's death could not be determined, Lycoming County First Assistant District Attorney Martin Wade said.

Demsey Mae Long, 22, of the Muncy area, will be on electronic monitoring for the first year of her probation according to the sentence imposed Thursday by county Judge Nancy L. Butts. Drugs were more important to her than her baby, he said. Long admitted she had used methamphetamine for several days before the April 19, 2020,, methamphetamine and marijuana in Long’s blood, Butts revealed at an earlier court proceeding.State police alleged Long’s continued use of illegal drugs during and after pregnancy were a contributing factor in her daughter’s death.
She played with her daughter in the living room until 4 or 5 a.m. when she put her back to bed wrapped in a “swaddle and pink blanket that covered her face.”
