Still looking to clinch a wild-card spot, Padres in a three-game funk with five games left to the regular season
For the second time this month, the Padres are looking to pull themselves out of a three-game skid. Both began with back-to-back losses to the Dodgers, but this time the Padres have just five games left in the season and their cushion in the wild-card race is just two games. The Phillies have already lost the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday, dropping into a tie with the Brewers for the sixth wild-card spot.As tight as things stand, the Padres’ playoff odds still sit at 97.
To do that the Padres will hope to get something from a center fielder. With Trent Grisham mired in an 0-for-22 slump in which he’s struck out 14 times , Jose Azocar is back in center field and in the nine-hole against White Sox right-hander Dylan Cease. As well as that worked out earlier this month, Azocar is 0-for-13 in four games since his eight-game hitting streak was snapped.
The bottom third of the order of the order was 1-for-12 in Friday’s loss with shortstop Ha-Seong Kim providing the lone hit.
