Why Pandora jewelry said it is ending its 12-year membership with the Responsible Jewellery Council

Iris Van der Veken, the former executive director of the Responsible Jewellery Council: French luxury holding company, Kering—whose jewelry include brands are Boucheron, Pomellato and Qeelin—also quit the RJC.

“We have urged RJC to suspend memberships of affiliated Russian companies and issue a call to action that all members of RJC suspend any business activities with Russia. They have failed to do so and as a consequence we have decided to leave,” Melchior said. “We don’t see how RJC can represent the industry on sustainability and not take a clear stand on the war in Ukraine.”, in its statement, said it suspended all business with Russia and Belarus on February 24.

This process was commenced to consider the status of Alrosa as an RJC member, to ensure that the appropriate action taken, was done so respecting the principles of natural justice and importantly that it was within the powers of the Board. Any subsequent action would be in addition to the announcement that Alrosa had already distanced itself from any leadership roles at the RJC having resigned from its directorship and position as vice-chair.
