Parents are fuming
The parents of the students were sent an email from the school, informing them that the cost of the school bus would be increasing from £3 per day, to £6 and if they would be willing to pay the increase. Shortly after, parents were then told that the bus service would be stopping altogether, putting many families in an extremely difficult situation.
"So many parents are at breaking point and a safe school bus should not be a luxury that only the better off should be entitled to. It should be for everyone." According to the parents, the original price of the bus service was £570 per year, equating to around £3 per day, but now this amount has doubled and the school has proposed that, if the bus services was to stay, the parents should pay £6 per day instead.
"We would of had to pay to keep our daughter safe and encourage her independence, a lot of the children that go to Walton suffer from extra SEN, hence why the school is popular to a lot of the families as they are smaller and have a fantastic family feel." Another issue for the parents and pupils is the prospect of walking the route to and from school.
