More than 63,000 students came together in different parts of the country to sit the much anticipated Leaving Cert exams last week and parents have spoken out after maths paper one caused serious upset among students.

"These kids have never sat a state exam before. I've dealt with kids who passed out, there were kids getting nose bleeds, kids who locked themselves in their bedrooms on Friday night," Eileen told Neil Prendeville on Cork's Red FM."My son feels like he wasted his time working so hard. They are trying to encourage them to do higher level maths but all they are doing is discouraging future Leaving Cert students.

“I spoke with a woman who does grinds with my daughter and they said they couldn’t have done it. Where do you go from there? How do you expect the students to do it if the teachers can’t do it?” “My daughter doing the Leaving Cert struggles with maths but she has really been putting in the effort, she has been doing grinds. She came home in such a bad way on Friday we had to schedule emergency two hour grinds. She was up in her room doing exam questions all night. She spent the whole weekend in her bedroom.
