“It makes me proud knowing I can represent people who look like me,” says the French-Indian model and Simone Rocha muse, who has a taste for designer vintage.
, is wary of being used to fulfil a diversity quota. Every decision she makes driven by integrity and authenticity, she says, acknowledging that conversations pertaining to a lack of opportunities for people of colour in fashion are ongoing in 2022.She mentions there are few Indian models she can turn to while riding out the peaks and troughs that come with the territory.
Although, she notes, working at the top of the fashion industry does, of course, have its benefits. “You learn so much about yourself,” she says. Her advice to young models? “Speak for yourself, get out of your comfort zone, set boundaries and have fun!” When she’s not fronting high-fashion editorials, find Ashley browsing the rails of the coolest thrift stores, tucked away in Parisian backstreets, or eyeing up the latest viral runway piece.
