After the tests came back, the health system shut down and restricted access to the affected areas, the system said. An outside service was hired to remediate the areas where the bacteria was found. The health system on Wednesday night was waiting for new water samples tests to come back "Importantly, no one was affected by the water," the health system said. Legionella is a narturally occuring bacteria and can grow in stagnant water, the health system said.
Legionnaires disease is a lung infection that kills about one in 10 people who get sick from it, according to the CDC. People are usually infected when they breath in water vapor that contain the bacteria, and rarely spreads from person to person.
