James Blackhouse and Dan White formed Vibe Liverpool after several nights out together
Two friends came up with a plan to transform an iconic Liverpool location after going to several raves.
The pair, under the name Vibe, began running student nights in Revolution on the Albert Dock. Though successful, they had to tame their interest in rave and techno music and appeal to a wider audience. James said: “It was obviously a good start with Revolution. But with it being so close to town, you have to go a little bit more mainstream. You couldn't really do a proper rave.”
They also decided to pivot back to their preferred underground raves, and had one place in mind. The Williamson Tunnels, an underground network created for unknown reasons by businessperson Joseph Williamson in the 1800s, was seen as an ideal location to start. The pair consider the sound system the most important aspect of any rave, which the tunnels are perfect for. James said: "The atmosphere in a tunnel, with the sound system, it just compliments it completely.”
Vibe finally hosted a rave in the Williamson Tunnels in December 2022. James and Dan were so impressed that they decided to break a golden rule of the business.
