A front-seat car passenger involved in a fatal road collision in north Dublin two years ago escaped death because he was wearing a seat belt, an inquest has heard.An inquest into the death of Mr Zalucean , a father-of-two from Hickey’s Lane, Baltrasna, Ashbourne, Co Meath, at Dublin District Coroner’s Court on Wednesday heard evidence that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.

She explained the level of alcohol in his body had not caused his death, but said it could have been a contributory factor. Mr Kostis said the next thing he remembered was someone pulling him out of the vehicle after the collision.Mr Kostis said he suffered injuries to his chest which were the result of wearing a seatbelt.

A forensic collision investigator, Garda Ger Dowd, said Mr Zalucean’s Opel Zafira had suffered a blowout to its left rear tyre on the R135 road about 125 metres from where the vehicle came to a stop. He told the coroner, Aisling Gannon, that it was impossible to be more specific about the speed at which the car was being driven.
