Chaos erupted at Paris Orly Airport as a passenger allegedly assaulted a flight attendant and jumped from an emergency exit while the plane was taxiing for takeoff.

A passenger allegedly assaulted a flight attendant and jumped from an emergency exit as the plane was preparing for takeoff, causing chaos. The incident occurred on Friday evening (February 7) as Iberia flight IB578 was taxiing to the runway at Paris Orly Airport. The passenger, reportedly intending to depart for Barajas Airport in Madrid, suddenly rose from his seat and headed to the front of the cabin, attempting to open the emergency exit.

A flight attendant tried to intervene but was allegedly attacked by the passenger before he successfully opened the door. The passenger then leaped onto the runway below while the engines of the Airbus A320 were still running, falling approximately 11.5 feet. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and detained the passenger. Photos taken from inside the plane show an emergency vehicle arriving on the tarmac. Despite the severity of the situation, the flight eventually departed for Madrid later that evening, arriving just before midnight after a delay of four and a half hours. The three-year-old aircraft was then temporarily taken out of service before resuming operations on Saturday afternoon. The reasons why the passenger decided to jump from the aircraft remain unclear. It’s also unknown if Iberia plans to press charges against him for allegedly assaulting the flight attendant and delaying the flight. The condition of the flight attendant who was allegedly attacked has also not been revealed
