Before he went on to work in RTE, Pat Kenny had a chance at representing the nation in the Eurovision as he has revealed that he applied to the singing competition in his early 20s
Pat Kenny revealed this week that he had applied to represent Ireland in the Eurovision in his early 20s.
After going to university in the US, which he described as "utterly life-changing", Pat wanted to broaden his horizons. "When I came back, I ended up picking up the guitar in O’Donoghue’s pub and singing songs and doing things I never dared to do." He explained: "I entered the Eurovision one time under the pen-name Jason Guano, guano being 'seagull s***'. ‘The reason I entered was because my song was called Seagulls Are Flying."
