Dublin never got into full flow throughout 2024 and maybe the signs were there all along.
They were struggling to get going in a lot of games and we never really saw them in full flow. They’d play in fits and starts and then get an impact off the bench to see games through.
Compare that with Galway. They lost two of their best players, Sean Kelly and Shane Walsh, to injury at different stages, something you would think they couldn’t possibly cope with, yet they got great impact from Cein Darcy, Johnny Heaney and Tomo Culhane. As I’ve said, the bench wasn’t really there, with, in some cases, guys that haven’t really done it at the highest level coming in. The depth was lacking and, as a young player with energy, Lee Gannon’s loss was really felt in the heel of the hunt.
Then they were hopeful of getting another one but it hasn’t worked out and seems to bring a few careers to a natural conclusion.
