Work is due to be completed in December after a further delay to the project.
Further delays to work being carried out on Paula Radcliffe Way, Bedfordshire, have been announcedReplacement of crash barriers means work will now finish in DecemberFurther delays to the completion of major roadworks on a dual carriageway have been announced after it was discovered its crash barrier system needed to be replaced.
Work started on 24 July to resurface Paula Radcliffe Way, the A6 from Bedford to Clapham, Bedfordshire. It was due to finish in September but work was further delayed when roosting bats were found in bridges and the expected completion date was moved to 24 October. Bedford Borough Council said work should end by 15 December and the road would remain open, but reduced to a single lane. The council said after testing and inspections were carried out on the crash barrier system it "became apparent" that the entire system needed to be replaced.Jim Weir, Conservative portfolio holder for environment, highways and transport, said: "The need to replace the crash barrier system has led to an unforeseen delay.
The road between the Oakley slip road and Milton Ernest is closed overnight in both directions between 20:00 and 06:00 BST until 24 October so resurfacing work can continue, to avoid a clash with roadworks on the A428.
