The Benfica prospect has agreed a loan switch to the Scottish champions before the deadline.
Paulo Bernardo insists he’s ready to be launched straight into Sunday’s showdown with Rangers after completing his deadline day deal from Benfica.
The highly-rated playmaker arrived on a season’s loan – with an option of a permanent deal next summer to make it nine new arrivals in the window. Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers – who also this week added defender Nat Phillips and winger Luis Palma – was thrilled to bag the Portugal under 21 star. But he admitted his rebuilding plans will need to roll on to January as his summer shopping left him wanting more.
Bernardo was a marquee arrival though and he insisted he’s out to make an immediate impact. The 21-year-old said: “The manager told me welcome, he explained to me a little bit about Celtic and he asked me if I was ready to be part of the team. It was really nice and I’m ready. I’m very excited to be here. It’s a great club and I’m ready to be on the pitch and to help the team.
“I always grew up with seeing Celtic in the big competitions, the Champions League, most of the time as champions here in Scotland. I have always seen Celtic as a big and a great club. “Our ambition is to be champions and make a good group stage of the Champions League and go as far as we can. I have to be ready and I think I am.”
