Lauren, Jackson and Colleen Casady of Pearland had postponed their Disney vacation a few times since 2018 for various reasons, including COVID in 2020, but after they had spent a couple of days at the park, Florida was on hurricane watch. The family sheltered in a hotel room as the storm passed.As a travel planner specializing in Disney trips, Pearland resident Colleen Casady thought she had covered the bases for a long-delayed family vacation to Florida.
Throughout Wednesday evening and Thursday morning, the Casadys could see strong winds pushing water up to the patio and entryway of their hotel while the Disney app on Colleen Casady’s phone sent constant emergency notifications.“Our patio was totally underwater, but as soon as the wind died down, the water receded, and coming from Texas, I thought, ‘Wow!’ — I was amazed,” she said.
"For me, it was stranger to be on the civilian side and not in the capacity of a first responder," he said.
