A pedestrian in her 70s died after being struck by a car on the N80 in Co Carlow. The driver, a man in his 20s, was uninjured. Gardaí are investigating the incident and appealing for witnesses.
Gardaí are investigating the incident which occurred at about 6.30pm on Friday in the townland of Rathcrogue. The woman’s body has been removed to the Mortuary in Waterford Regional Hospital where gardaí say a postmortem will take place in due course. The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was uninjured.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward, and have asked road users who may have camera footage, including dashcam footage, who were travelling in the area at the time of the collision to make this footage available to gardaí. Separately, a person was killed in Northern Ireland in a two-car collision in Co Armagh shortly before 1pm on Friday. Four adults and a child were understood to be travelling in one car, and one adult in the second vehicle.
