A man in his 40s was seriously injured after being struck by a car that fled the scene in Dublin on Sunday evening.
A pedestrian was seriously injured in a hit-and-run incident in Dublin this evening. The collision occurred on the Lower Rathmines Road around 8:45pm, when a car struck the victim and failed to remain at the scene. The man, who is aged in his 40s, was rushed to St. James's Hospital by ambulance and his injuries are understood to be serious. The scene is currently preserved for a technical examination and diversions are in place.
Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward. 'Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a serious injury traffic collision in Rathmines, Dublin, on Sunday, 22nd December 2024,' said a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána. 'At approximately 8:45pm, gardaí and emergency services responded to a collision involving a car and a pedestrian on Lower Rathmines Road. The car involved failed to remain at the scene. The pedestrian, an adult male (40s), was taken by Ambulance to St. James's Hospital. His injuries are understood to be serious. 'The scene is currently preserved and traffic diversions are in place. Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward,' they added. Those with camera footage, including motorists with dash-cam, from the area at the time are asked to provide it to investigating gardaí.
