Wildcard who overcame cancer as a child, makes a superb start to his Wimbledon debut.

Peniston, who overcame a rare cancer as a child which required chemotherapy and surgery over 18 months, impressively reached quarter-finals at Eastbourne, Queen's and Nottingham in preparation for Wimbledon.

Following an exchange of breaks in the third set, he wrapped up a clean victory with a further two breaks of serve to complete an impressive opening performance. The 2014 quarter-finalist was also up to his usual entertaining tricks. An underarm between-the-legs serve delighted the crowd, though he did lose the point.

Having said he would embrace being the "villain" as he faced a British player on home soil, Kyrgios turned the match in his favour with a timely break late in the third set - though his grievances with the umpire and crowd continued. "That was incredibly tough. He's a local wildcard. He played exceptional tennis at times. He enjoyed the moment," said Kyrgios.

Kostyuk is ranked 108 places above world number 184 Swan and has reached the third and fourth rounds at other Grand Slams.
