Tory peer Lord Marland also questioned the work of the committee, dismissing the balance of power in favour of the Conservatives as irrelevant. “The Government will in no way traduce or criticise the work of the committee who are doing exactly what Parliament has asked them to do,” the spokesman said.While the House of Commons would not be drawn on the increased security of committee members, a Parliament spokesman said the ability for MPs and their staff to “perform their Parliamentary duties safely both on and off the Estate is fundamental to our democracy”.
