People on PIP or DLA could see changes to Motability Scheme if lease due to end

The change will not affect how the scheme works, entitlement or access to the Motability Scheme.

Adult Disability Payment has now replaced new claims for Personal Independence Payment for people over 16 and under State Pension age living in Scotland. The new devolved benefit means that people of working age with a disability, long-term illness or physical or mental health condition can now apply for support from Social Security Scotland instead of the Department for Work and Pensions .

While vehicles will still be available to lease from Motability, this will be done through the Accessible Vehicles and Equipment Scheme for new claimants and eventually, existing claimants whose current lease comes to an end - assuming they have transferred from PIP or DLA to ADP by that time. Figures from Motabiltiy indicate there are around 690,000 customers across the UK with an estimated 10 per cent living in Scotland.
