The Man City boss gave Mr Mendy a glowing character testimonial at Chester Crown Court where the player denies seven counts of rape against four women

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has appeared at the rape trial of Benjamin Mendy, giving the jurors a glowing character testimonial in which he described the footballer a 'really good boy'.

He told the court: "I think he is happy and I remember that when we were together and everybody asks for some favours and he was able to do it.” Ms Laws suggested Mr Mendy was ‘happy and fun’ and contributed to team spirit. Mr Guardiola replied: “It’s difficult to find a person in the locker room who speaks badly about Mendy.”

Asked if Mr Mendy was easy to deal with, Mr Guardiola said: “Yes, so easy.” Mr Guardiola was asked whether he had supported Mr Mendy after he became aware that at the beginning of 2020 the player had broken lockdown rules.
