Person dies after being hit by a train near Lancaster as services suspended

Earlier today emergency services rushed to the scene at Hest Bank to reports of a casualty. Transport police and paramedics arrived on site around 1:43pm this afternoon.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to the line in Hest Bank at 1.42pm today following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Due to the fatal incident, all lines between Lancaster and Carlisle were cancelled. Passengers were told services would either be cancelled or delayed by up to 120 minutes.

Services from Manchester Airport were also affected. All lines have since been reopened but delays are still expected.
